The axis and orbit of monotheistic religions, God and His attributes including the knowledge of the unseen, which is a fundamental belief in these religions. Moreover, the knowledge of the unseen is one of the components of belief in prophethood and, consequently, one of the components of Imamate among the Shiite. Accordingly, the present study aims to study the realm of the unseen from the perspective of hadiths. In this research, an attempt is made to study the subject through descriptive and analytical methods using library research. The investigations showed that the primary point of disagreement among scholars with different approaches is whether the unlimited (absolute) knowledge of the unseen, which is exclusive to God, can be granted to the prophets and Imams or not. There are two viewpoints: The first opinion suggests that by divine permission, the unlimited and absolute divine knowledge can be granted to entities other than God. Accordingly, it should be acknowledged that the works so far dealing with the knowledge of the Imam have been viewed with this approach. That is, they have mostly relied on the extensive hadiths found in hadith collections and either have advocated for absolute knowledge or argued for the generality of the Imam’s knowledge. The latter interpretation has been more prevalent among Imami narrators, theologians, and jurists in recent times. But contrary to the first opinion, the second opinion limits the knowledge of the unseen of the Prophet (PBUH) and the Imam (AS).
