Different religious groups have historically discussed the topic of Imamate and succession of the Prophet(s). Shiites believe the selection of the Prophet's caliphs was made by God and announced by the Prophet but Sunnis hold there is no text about this and the selection of the successor of the Prophet(s) was carried out through allegiance and consensus. This, however, contradicts their own authentic hadiths, as the texts and hadiths of Imamate are recorded as authentic in their books. The problem addressed in this article is proving the Imamate of the fourth Shiite Imam given that various groups of Sunnis and some Shiites have historically doubted his Imamate; thus, this article aims to examine the validity of both Shiite and Sunni hadiths to affirm the Imamate of Imam Sajjad (A). The findings of this study indicate numerous authentic hadiths have been recorded in both Shiite and Sunni texts that support the Imamate of Imam Sajjad (A). This research is structured into three distinct parts. In the first part, we examine general texts that address the imamate of all twelve Shiite Imams. Among these, the most significant texts, which are recognized by scholars from both sects, include Ḥadīth Al-thaqalayn, Al-ithnā ʿashar khalīfa, and the Hadith of Lawḥ. These texts provide examples of caliphs and Imams that supported by Quranic and narrational evidence, including the Al-Taṭhīr verse, the Hadith of the Al-Amān, and Safineh. The second part focuses on specific texts pertaining to the imamate of Alī, Ibn-e Al-Ḥusayn (A). These texts assert that the matter of his imamate was communicated by the Prophet. In the third part, the miracles and virtues of Imam Sajjad (A), along with his claim to Imamate, serve as additional evidence to prove his Imamate. These pieces of evidence, agreed upon by Sunni scholars, contradict their claims regarding the absence of explicit texts for appointing an Imam. The findings show these texts are mentioned in authentic books in general and specific ways. The focus is on both types of text, as we will interpret and clarify them using reliable sources. This research is novel in that no research has been conducted to prove the imamate of Imam Sajad (A).
