The issue of understanding the nature and characteristics of Iblis (Satan) is one of the most important topics in the field of Islamic demonology. This subject has been extensively addressed in prophetic narrations and is reflected in the theological thought of the Ahl al-Hadith school. The present research aims to identify and analyze the nature and characteristics of Iblis based on the narrations of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) in reliable hadith sources from both Shia and Sunni traditions. The main research questions include the following: How is the existential nature of Iblis explained in prophetic narrations? What are the limits of Iblis’s power and influence? What are the strategies to counter him? The main hypothesis of this research is that prophetic narrations introduce Iblis as a real being with the power to influence humans, who despite his abilities, has specific limitations. This research has examined the narrations in Shia and Sunni hadith sources using a descriptive-analytical method. The findings show that Iblis, before his disobedience, was named ‘Harith’ and his power of influence works through temptation, not through creation or genesis. The most important strategies to counter him are remembrance of God, seeking forgiveness, and performing righteous deeds. Considering that the Ahl al-Hadith school has been the most authentic theological school in Islam beyond merely narrating traditions, and great hadith scholars such as Bukhari and Muslim in Sunni tradition and Kulayni and Saduq in Shia tradition have presented their theological views in the form of hadith books, the findings of this research can also be considered as a reflection of this school’s theological thoughts on demonology.
