The Ḥadīth al-Manzilah, in which the Holy Prophet (PBUH) describes the position of the Commander of the Faithful, Imam Ali (AS), in relation to himself as analogous to the position of Aaron with respect to Moses (AS)—except in the matter of prophethood—is among the hadiths unanimously acknowledged by theological schools. Ibn Taymiyyah, while accepting the authenticity of its chain of transmission, raised four major objections to its content. This study, employing a descriptive-analytical method and drawing upon religious texts, particularly those accepted by Ibn Taymiyyah himself, examines the content of the Ḥadīth al-Manzilah and evaluates the validity of the objections raised. The findings indicate that Imam Ali’s (AS) succession in Medina during the Battle of Tabūk carried exceptional strategic importance, given the critical and sensitive circumstances of that period. The issuance of the Ḥadīth al-Manzilah in such a context is understood as a decisive response to the activities and seditions of the hypocrites, including the incident of the Mosque of Ḍirār. The analysis shows that Ibn Taymiyyah’s objections to the ḥadīth stem from logical fallacies and a misreading of the historical context, such as disregarding the security crisis of Tabūk. This research, through an innovative approach, confirms the refutation of his four key objections. The study emphasizes both the exclusivity of Imam Ali’s (AS) virtue and the comprehensive implication of the Aaronic analogy for universal guardianship and succession. Consequently, the Ḥadīth al-Manzilah remains one of the strongest proofs of Imam Ali’s (AS) superiority and distinguished position in relation to the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
