The Hadith of Thaqalain, as one of the most important and reliable Islamic narrations, clearly indicates the Imamate and infallibility of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s). This research aims to examine the approach of Sunni neo-Salafists in dealing with this hadith. This intellectual movement, which began in the 20th century with Muhammad Abduh (d. 1323 AH), has attempted to negate the implication of the Hadith of Thaqalain on the position of the Imamate of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s) through specific and targeted interpretations. For this reason, the main issue of the present research is how Sunni neo-Salafists have dealt with the Hadith of Thaqalain. This research was conducted using the method of analyzing the text of the hadith and focusing on the works of three prominent neo-Salafist figures, namely Rashid Reza (d. 1354 AH), Jamal al-Din Qasimi (d. 1332 AH), and Muhammad Nasir al-Albani (d. 1420 AH). The hypothesis of this study is that neo-Salafists, by using interpretive and selective methods, try to interpret the meaning of the Hadith of Al-Thaqalayn in a way that contradicts the Shiite belief in the Imamate and infallibility of the Ahlul Bayt (AS). The results of this study show that instead of denying or distorting the literal meaning of the Hadith, neo-Salafists have adopted an interpretive approach that leads to limiting its instances and implications. This approach is particularly evident in denying the position of scholarly authority and infallibility of the Ahlul Bayt (AS) and in a way leads to weakening their position in relation to the Quran. Examining the views of these three figures, while clarifying the ways in which neo-Salafists deal with hadiths, helps to understand their fundamental beliefs more deeply and strengthen the fundamental beliefs of Shiite belief.
